LETTER: Sir John A’s record leaves little reason to honour him on a pedestal

Recently, the Ontario legislature’s Board of Internal Economy removed the hoarding from the Sir John A. Macdonald statue at Queen’s Park and installed a vague new plaque. It proclaims: “Though we cannot change the history we have inherited, we can shape the history we wish to leave behind.” There is no mention of residential schools or the thousands of Indigenous children who never came home…
