The premier, a contingent of others from the legislative assembly, the RCMP, Canadian Rangers, representatives from the Catholic and Protestant churches and a host of dignitaries from various Indigenous groups paid their respects at a ceremony Monday morning, honouring the site where a remembrance monument will be built.

The monument, which is a carefully selected colourful rock, fulfills call for action 82 from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which recommended that a monument be built in every capital city in Canada to honour the many children who died in residential schools, as well as those who lived. The creation of the monument is entirely survivor-led.
