Residential school survivor appointed to Order of Ontario

SAULT STE. MARIE – A survivor of the Shingwauk Indian Residential School in Sault Ste. Marie has received the province’s highest civilian honour for advancing truth and reconciliation through her work.

Elder Shirley Horn is one of 30 appointees to the 2025 Order of Ontario, which recognizes individuals for their “distinguished service and extraordinary achievements,” according to a news release from the province.
